Local MP Robbie Moore visited the Keighley Sorting Office last week to thank the staff members for their dedicated work over the last 17 months and to understand greater the process of our how local post is sorted and delivered.
On his visit to the sorting office, Robbie was talked through how post is sorted, what challenges the sorting office faces on a daily basis, as well as the increase in demand for parcels which has increased dramatically over the last decade due to the explosion in online shopping. During the visit Robbie learnt that demand for parcels has doubled in our area since the start of the pandemic.
The visit comes as part of Robbie’s summer tour in which he is visiting constituents, businesses, and local organisations across all six wards in the Keighley and Ilkley constituency.
Commenting Robbie said: “Last week I joined the amazing team of postal men and women at the Royal Mail depot in Keighley. They’ve kept the service running throughout the pandemic, dealing with an unprecedented demand during the national lockdown as we all stayed at home, taking advantage of online shopping.
“Being a Postie is a tough job, especially through the Covid pandemic, and I have a huge amount of respect for post men and women up and down the country. It is estimated that the number of parcels they are now delivering has doubled since March last year.
“Throughout the visit, the hard work and dedication of the staff at the Keighley Sorting Office was clear - many of whom have worked for Royal Mail for many decades.”
