Local MP Robbie Moore has marked Holocaust Memorial Day, signing the Holocaust Educational Trust’s Book of Commitment on behalf of his constituents in Keighley and Ilkley. In doing so, Moore pledged his commitment to Holocaust Memorial Day and honouring those who were murdered during the Holocaust, as well as paying tribute to the extraordinary Holocaust survivors who work tirelessly to educate young people today.
This year marks 80 years since the liberation of the concentration camps of Europe and the end of the Second World War.
The 27th January, the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, marked Holocaust Memorial Day.
In the lead up to and on Holocaust Memorial Day, thousands of commemorative events will be arranged by schools, faith groups and community organisations across the country, remembering all the victims of the Holocaust and subsequent genocides. For a Better Future is the theme for Holocaust Memorial Day 2025.
Robbie Moore MP said:
“The Holocaust is a dark stain on the history of our planet and will forever serve as a warning from the past.
We must ensure that the Holocaust is never forgotten and therefore it is crucial we teach our children about the Holocaust and its atrocities so that this evil will never be forgotten.
80 years on, we must become the generation who carry forward the legacy of the witnesses, remember those who were murdered and challenge those who would distort or deny the past.
