Haworth Post Office has been earmarked for closure with the services moved to a smaller counter in the new Co-op on Station Road. On hearing this news, I immediately telephoned Post Office Ltd who had not had the courtesy to contact me directly. I was then able to speak with Sammy Ahmed, the current Postmaster at Haworth Post Office to see what help and support I could provide.
The Post Office Ltd then launched a consultation on the closure of the Haworth Branch and its relocation to the Co-op, however their actions all seem like a shoddy back room deal in which they are now having to back track to ensure due process is followed.
Closing Haworth Post Office which is situated in the heart of Haworth near the top of Main Street and moving the services to the new Co-op is the wrong decision and could be deeply harmful to the local economy. Not only will it disadvantage local residents, it will also have a huge impact on Haworthโs tourist trade.
I have written to the Chief Executive of the Post Office Ltd raising these concerns urging him to reconsider this decision. I also raised it in the House of Commons and have managed to secure meetings with Ministers to discuss this decision.
The consultation has now closed. Thank you to everyone who made their voice heard. I'm continuing the fight to save Haworth Post Office and keep it at its historic Main Street location.
