Local MP Robbie Moore has paid tribute to local campaigners and community champions following the opening of the brand new Keith Thompson Centre in Braithwaite.
Speaking at the opening event, Robbie Moore MP said:
After many meetings and huge involvement from many within the community - it is fantastic to see our brand new Keith Thompson Centre OPEN!
This fantastic news for Braithwaite - which now has its own, dedicated community centre back open for all to use.
I cannot thank our very own local community champion Julie Meares enough for her absolute willpower, strength, grit and true dedication to get the centre up and running.
From our very first meeting a few years ago, to our interaction with Incommunities and gaining their help and support - to the discussions with over stakeholders, Julie Meares has been a complete force for good in getting the centre open.
Thank you also to everyone who has been involved. From fundraising to helping with construction, whether it be lending materials or manpower - you have all been incredible and we are all ever indebted.
Thanks to you - Braithwaite now has its community centre back! It just shows what Community Spirit can achieve.
This weekend - it was great to attend the official opening and to see the centre so busy and bustling.
