Keighley’s local MP Robbie Moore has reacted with fury over Bradford Council’s decision to refuse a local resident’s petition to Save Keighley Tip, which was submitted to the Council at the beginning of January and signed by thousands of residents across Keighley and the wider area.
Local Keighley resident and community champion Laura Kelly says she expected to present the ‘Save Keighley Tip’ petition at Bradford Council’s next meeting on the 24th January, but after chasing the Council for an update following no communication from the Council, was informed by Council executives that the petition has been refused.
Keighley MP Robbie Moore has reacted with fury to the news, calling the Labour led Council’s decision an “absolute disgrace” and slamming the council for attempting to “silence the voices of thousands of Keighley residents”.
The MP is vowing to continue his campaign to save the tip in the coming weeks and is urging as many people as possible to continue signing the petition so that “the strength of feeling of the town and wider area can be heard”.
Robbie Moore MP said: ”Labour run Bradford Council's decision to silence the voices of thousands of Keighley residents is an absolute disgrace, and shows Labour’s complete and utter disregard for local concerns and opinions here in Keighley.
“To refuse to even hear the concerns of our community is completely unacceptable and I again call on Bradford Council to U-turn immediately on their decision to close the Tip.”
“If Bradford Council can’t even be bothered to accept a perfectly valid petition signed by many Keighley residents, how on earth can Keighley feel that the Labour run authority have our best interests at heart.“
“Keighley is absolutely united in wanting to save our Tip from Bradford’s closure, but we must show the strength of feeling and therefore I would urge all who haven’t done so, to continue to sign the petition at www.robbiemoore.org.uk/SaveOurTip so we can show our strength in numbers, regardless of what the Council say.”
Laura Kelly said: "I am beyond frustrated that Bradford Council have refused to accept our petition to save Keighley Tip. Just like the battle to save Keighley’s Green Space, Labour have once again disrespected the thousands of residents who took time out of their day to sign this petition and show their support for an important community resource.
It's clear that this Labour-run council only cares about their own agenda and not the needs of the people they serve. Despite this news, we will fight to save our tip and make sure our voices are heard loud and clear, and I would still urge people to sign the petition, so we can show the strength of feeling."
