Ilkley MP Robbie Moore is calling on residents across Ilkley and Ben Rhydding to voice their opposition to plans for a blanket 20mph zone across the town.
Robbie Moore MP said:
"On Monday, Bradford Council launched its consultation on its misjudged plans for a blanket 20mph zone across Ilkley and Ben Rhydding, including the proposed construction of over 100 speed bumps along roads throughout the town. The whole project anticipated to cost well over £200,000.
We all support increasing road safety measures through targeted means including the implementation of 20mph zones outside schools and in specific areas of concern. But imposing a blanket 20mph zone on residents across the whole of Ilkley and Ben Rhydding is not the answer.
In my view, Bradford Council’s plans - backed by the Greens and Lib Dem’s on Ilkley Town Council is not the best use of taxpayers money to improve either safety or enhance active travel.
It is clear that what we need is a targeted and effective approach, applying traffic measures in specific areas of concern."
