Keighley and Ilkley MP Robbie Moore visited St Andrew’s Church in Keighley to learn more about the exciting £5 million Project Beacon initiative that aims to revitalise the iconic town-centre building and its adjacent hall into a thriving community hub.
The project seeks to enhance facilities for worship and create a vibrant venue for community activities. Proposed changes include a new entrance, improved accessibility with a spiral staircase and lift, upgraded lighting and sound systems, and the addition of a suite of community rooms in the hall with flexible space options. Solar panels will also be installed to boost sustainability.
During his visit, Robbie Moore MP discussed the plans with Greg Thomson, chair of the Church on the Green Neighbourhood Foundation, who highlighted the overwhelmingly positive response from the public.
Speaking after the visit, Robbie Moore MP said:
“It was fantastic to see the plans for St Andrew’s Church up close and hear about the transformative Project Beacon initiative. This ambitious £5 million project is not just about revitalising a place of worship but also creating a welcoming community space that will benefit the whole town. I fully support this initiative and encourage everyone in our community to get involved, spread the word, and help raise the funds needed to make Project Beacon a reality.”
