Increasing the number of apprentices across the Keighley area will help boost the local economy, Keighley’s MP has said.
This National Apprenticeship Week, which runs from February 10-16, the town’s MP Robbie Moore will be encouraging local businesses to take on and work with apprentices.
Since 2007, millions of young people across the country have taken on apprenticeships, helping to tackle youth unemployment and provide them with opportunities to get the skills to succeed in life.
Apprenticeships give young people a way to learn while they are working, helping them take a fast-tracked route to a highly skilled job.
And for employers, apprentices bring passion and energy into their business and are a great way to get the skilled work force they need.
Research has shown that 1 in 3 (35%) of young people aged 12-18 are more likely to choose an apprenticeship for their career path, compared to three years ago.
And over half (51%) of young people said having opportunities to develop skills was an important consideration when thinking about their future career path, while two-fifths (43%) said being able to get paid while also training was an important consideration.

Robbie Moore MP said:
“Apprenticeships are a vital but often underutilised part of our educational system. Not only do they provide our young people a with a brilliant start in life, they are often an even better route than university and give people the chance to learn a trade on the job — and the purpose and pride that comes with it.
That’s why one of my key priorities as the town's MP will continue to be working with many of our fantastic local businesses to make sure they take on and work with apprentices, helping to boost our local economy and give our young people the best start to working life.”
