Local MP Robbie Moore has met with representatives of Network Rail and Northern Rail to discuss the planned refurbishments at Keighley train station, calling on both organisations to "get on with it".
Mr Moore says he was originally informed by Network Rail that the works would be completed during 2022, but the project - backed by ring-fenced funding of £9 million - has not yet commenced. The town’s MP says he is fed up of funds being allocated for projects but delivery being "constantly delayed".
Key aspects of the project include repairing roofing on the station building, refurbishing the canopies at the front entrance, and carrying out structural repairs to the station building itself. In addition, the waiting room is currently wrapped in scaffolding, however no repair or improvement works are underway.
Mr Moore met with two engineers leading plans for the station, as well as representatives from Northern Rail and Network Rail. Mr Moore has asked for an updated timeframe for delivery and expressed the importance of getting the works completed as soon as possible.
Speaking after the meeting, Robbie Moore MP said:
“Plans to renew and refurbish key elements of Keighley train station have been in the pipeline for far too long. £9 million has been ring fenced for this project, and having been told that the works would be completed in 2022, it is incredibly frustrating that no works have yet started.
At today’s meeting I made it very clear that Network Rail and Northern Rail need to get on with it, making sure that these important improvement works get under way as soon as possible.
The station is a key gateway to the town, and I don’t want improvement
projects getting constantly delayed unnecessarily. I shall be monitoring this schemes progression very closely”.
