Boulders have been installed at the Ilkley Lido site following calls from Ilkley MP Robbie Moore’s calls for more to be done to stop illegal encampments by travellers.
The installation of the boulders follows the temporary closure of the lido earlier this month which saw travellers set up camp on the land next to the popular open air swimming pool.
Robbie Moore MP said:
"You may remember that at the beginning of July, Travellers broke into the Ilkley Lido & Pool grounds to set up camp, breaking through the wooden barriers, causing damage - and whilst they were camping they tried to take their horse into the Ilkley Pool, intimidated staff and customers resulting in the Pool having to temporarily close.
After chasing for boulders to be installed - to hopefully stop illegal encampments from happening again, I can confirm they have now been put in place
Regarding Marley - Eviction Notices have been served on the Travellers and hopefully they will be vacated soon. Again, I am aware of the damage that has been caused and unfortunately the intimidation which residents and users of the Marley Sports Field have experienced. As soon as the Travellers have vacated, I will be pushing for tougher measures to prevent access.
Getting things done and Working for you."
