Local butcher Ben Barnes takes over as the new owner of Roy Dykes Butchers in Keighley Market Hall.
Keighley and Ilkley MP Robbie Moore met with Ben, aged 20, as he visited stalls in Keighley Market Hall. Ben first started helping out on weekends at Roy Dykes Butchers, which was first established in 1996, at the age of 12 and soon became fascinated by the butcher trade. After moving on to work at C&L Herd Butchers on Queens Road, Keighley, Ben returned to Roy Dykes Butchers but this time taking over the ownership of the company from recently retired Roy Dykes.
Mr Moore said: “It is great to see young people such as Ben take the leap to set up and own their own business. Before becoming the MP, I set up my own business and I know just how tough the first few months can be. It seems that Ben has taken to it like a duck to water. Ben has a real ‘can-do’ attitude and wants to crack on in life with little barriers to stop his aspirations becoming a reality. Small businesses are the life blood of our local economy and I want to support people like Ben so that they can do well and get on in life. I hope that more young people follow in Ben’s footsteps and set up their own businesses across the Keighley and Ilkley constituency.”
Ben said: “I have been incredibly lucky to have ended up where I am. It has been, and will continue to be, hard work. I couldn't be more grateful to Roy for giving me this opportunity, to Chris Herd and Robbie Moore for their advice and most importantly the best customers in the world who I do this for. Thank you all!”
Roy Dykes Butchers is located in the entrance to Keighley Market Hall via Low Street.
