Keighley and Ilkley MP Robbie Moore has today congratulated students after GCSE and vocational results were received by students. This follows a second year of disruption caused to exams by the coronavirus pandemic.
Despite the disruption caused to exams this year the number of students receiving grade 7 or above increased to 28.9 per cent from 26.2 per cent last year. Teachers have been able to draw on a range of evidence when determining grades, including the use of questions provided by exam boards and, mock exams, coursework and in class tests covering topics students have been taught. No algorithm has been used to determine students’ grades.
The government are also providing a fair way of assessing those who are sitting vocational and technical qualifications, helping them to progress to the next stage of their careers. Across all qualifications, schools, colleges, and other educational settings will conduct multiple checks on the exam results – such as checking the consistency of judgement across teachers and that the correct processes are followed – so that there is as much fairness as possible. Exam boards will also conduct their own checks, and every student will have the right to appeal their grade.

“For everybody today should be a celebration of the hard work and resilience that all young people have shown throughout the Coronavirus pandemic.”
