As the Tokyo 2020 Olympics draws to a close, Keighley and Ilkley MP Robbie Moore praises Team GB saying “you did your country proud” during the tournament.
Team GB came fourth overall on the medals table, behind USA, China and Japan. Team GB, who won 22 gold medals, 21 silver medals and 22 bronze medals, came above the Russian Olympic Committee and Australia.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympics, which was delayed by a year due to the Covid pandemic, took place over 17 days. There was much speculation over whether the games would take place due to the rising Covid cases in Japan at the time, as well as protests from Japanese citizens.
Commenting Robbie Moore said: “Team GB did us all proud and are a shining example of the best that Britain has to offer. The athletes who took part in this year’s games came from all four corners of our United Kingdom and showed just what we can achieve as one nation.
“Yorkshire as a county did extremely well, placing us at some point at number 7 in the league tables. The games was an historic time for our nation under the most extraordinary circumstances. This has been one of the greatest games for team GB in Olympic history.”
