King Charles III arrived at Parliament today to preside over the State Opening of Parliament, donning ceremonial robes and the crown of state to deliver a speech laying out the legislative program of the U.K.’s new Labour government
The state opening of Parliament is one of the many traditional set pieces of the political year, showcasing Britain’s evolution from an absolute monarchy to a parliamentary democracy.
Speaking after the State Opening, Local MP Robbie Moore said:
"Fantastic to attend the State Opening of Parliament today where we welcomed His Majesty the King to Westminster to deliver the King’s Speech.
I look forward to working with our new government on key priorities people here in Keighley and Ilkley have voted for, including making sure we deliver on the record investment I fought hard to secure for our town, finishing the rebuild of our new Airedale Hospital by 2030 and having a say on taking back our independence from Bradford Council, which I truly believe will lead to a fairer future for all in our District.
One thing I’ve learnt in public service is to take absolutely nothing for granted, and my continued commitment to you as we kick off this next chapter together is to work tirelessly over the years ahead, making sure our voice is heard loud and clear and putting local priorities first - always."
