Local MP Robbie Moore has visited Silsden AFC Juniors to meet with volunteers at the club and discuss future plans and current challenges at the club .
With just under 400 children registered from across the District, Silsden AFC Juniors has become a hub for young footballers, hosting teams from across Yorkshire for their annual 5-aside tournament, which brings in over 2000 people to the Silsden grounds.
Meeting with local volunteers Becky O'Neill and John Brewerton , Mr Moore paid tribute to staff and players at the club and the trio toured the club's grounds to discuss the impact of weather conditions over winter months.
The club say they have had a huge amount of rainfall over the winter months, which in turn has led to all of their home matches being cancelled.
Commenting on the visit, Robbie Moore MP said:
"It was fantastic to meet with Becky and John from Silsden AFC Juniors, who both work incredibly hard as volunteers to keep the club going from strength to strength.
As an entirely volunteer-led club, I can’t thank the 50 dedicated coaches, training assistants, and wider team helpers enough for giving up their valuable time so regularly - as well as the fantastic players who make Silsden AFC Juniors so great.
It was great to have a chat about future plans, and current challenges with some of the pitches needing drainage works to improve their surface. I am looking forward to getting involved and exploring steps to help alleviate these issues going forward.”
