Keighley & Worth Valley railway is set to benefit from £5 million of government funding as part of a £19.8 million levelling up deal for Keighley announced by the government today.
Local MP Robbie Moore has called the funding package “incredible”, with the extra funding for the iconic railway coming just months after the it received a £1 million pounds boost from the government in September.
The extra £5 million for KWVR will focus on providing active travel enhancements to and from Keighley train station, signalling enhancements along the Keighley & Worth Valley railway line, the restoration of train tracks and enhancements to KWVR facilities.
Local MP, who took Levelling Up Minister Jacob Young to the Keighley Railway last month, called the announcement a “double dose of incredible news”.
Commenting on the news, Robbie Moore MP said:
"This really is a double dose of incredible news for KWVR, who received £1 million from the Government’s Community Ownership funding just last month to secure the future of the railway.
Just last month, we welcomed Levelling Up Minister Jacob Young to Keighley to make the case for this funding firsthand. The Minister had the opportunity to see the benefits of potential enhancements to the line through improving the signalling and it is absolutely fantastic to see the government listening, acting and now delivering on our calls.
I will always make sure that our town is given the proper recognition it deserves for as long as I am Keighley’s Member of Parliament."
