Local MP Robbie Moore has met with the Skipton and East Lancashire Rail Action Partnership (SELRAP) to discuss the ongoing proposals to rebuild the Skipton-Colne railway link.
The vital connection is seen as the missing piece of the puzzle for the regional railway network, providing crucial links between Yorkshire and Lancashire.
Mr Moore says he shares SELRAP's belief that reopening this line could bring significant benefits to the area, enhancing business, tourism, and education through improved connectivity. Among the predicted advantages for local residents are:
- Creating new commuting options for people to work in Lancashire and Greater Manchester
- Offering speedy access to the University of Central Lancashire
- Creating a faster link to Manchester Airport
- Boosting the connectivity of our vital engineering sector with businesses in Lancashire and beyond
Speaking after the meeting, Mr Moore said:
"With the start of a new Parliament, it is the perfect time to promote this proposal for a fast, modern rail link, and I will be playing my part to help SELRAP get the attention from Government it needs. At the end of last year, I was pleased to see the then Rail Minister, Huw Merriman, agree to discuss with local MPs the plan to progress to the next stage of development, and I will be encouraging the new Government to follow through on this pledge.
