Ahead of English Tourism Week, which runs from 22-31 May, Keighley and Ilkley MP Robbie Moore was invited by Upwood Holiday Park in Oxenhope to officially open their newly refurbished clubhouse. The event, which took place on 21 May, included a tour of the refurbished facilities by park owner Frank Towers, as well as hearing about how the business has weathered the Covid pandemic.
The park is now open to the public following months of closure due to the Covid pandemic. Following the lifting of most Covid restrictions in England, the holiday park is now looking to attract more UK-based visitors for staycations and have invested heavily in refurbishing their 200 cover restaurant, with wood burning stoves, extended play gym and children’s games room, and separate entertaining area for private functions.
Commenting Keighley and Ilkley MP Robbie Moore said: “It was a delight to be invited back to Upwood Holiday Park to see the refurbishment work that has taken place. The park is a superb location for any family and group to set up camp for what will hopefully be a revolution in UK staycations.
“We are lucky enough to have many world-renowned tourist attractions across the constituency, from Haworth and Bronte Country, to Ilkley Moor, the Keighley Worth Valley Railway and East Riddlesden Hall. As we ease Covid restrictions and build back better, I want to see a revolution in the way we take our holidays, favouring the many destinations that the UK has to offer. That is why I am supporting English Tourism Week. UK tourism provides over £100 billion in revenue for the UK economy and supports over 2.5 million jobs.”
The annual English Tourism Week campaign is led by VisitEngland and celebrates England’s diverse, exciting and vibrant tourism sector, and showcasing the quality, range and value of English tourism.
Making up 80% of the UK’s visitor economy, English tourism in 2019 generated over £100 billion a year and supported 2.6 million jobs and is a major employer of school leavers and young people, as well as an incubator for entrepreneurs and innovation. It provides a spotlight to put tourism front of mind with key stakeholders and showcase the amazing work that goes on each and every day to build strong and resilient destinations.
