Local MP Robbie Moore has met with traders at Keighley Market to discuss revitalising the iconic town centre space.
Despite being a vibrant shopping destination within the town for years, many market traders say there is a lack of support from Bradford Council, who own the site itself, with traders taking aim at a lack of marketing and rent discrepancies from the Council in recent months.
Attended by representatives from Bradford Council, including the Deputy Director for Place and Regeneration, the meeting was a chance for traders to make their concerns heard directly, including suggestions about how Keighley Market can be revitalised.
Following the meeting, Mr Moore says it is “imperative” Council officials maintain regular contact with traders at the Market.
Commenting on the meeting, Robbie Moore MP said:
“Keighley market is an absolute gem of our town and that needs to be recognised, promoted, and our amazing stallholders need to be supported and backed so that they have the best opportunity for their businesses to thrive.
Many of the traders have felt that there has been a lack of support from Bradford Council in recent years and it is imperative that following this meeting, the Council maintain a regular dialogue with our traders moving forward. I look forward to the next meeting in the coming months where I hope improvements will have been made. I certainly will not stand by without helping our stall holders as much as possible.”
