Keighley and Ilkley MP Robbie Moore has launched his fundraising page as part of his Captain Tom 100 challenge. During the challenge, Robbie pledged to run 100km over 10 weeks, running 10km every Friday. So far Robbie has completed 50km of his target 100km with a push to raise as much money as he can during the final five weeks of the challenge.
The Captain Tom 100 challenge, which was initiated by the Captain Tom Foundation, took place on Friday 30 April which would have been his 101st birthday. The challenge encouraged people to do something featured around the number 100 and to raise money for their chosen charity.
Robbie is raising money for three local charities: Oxenhope-based Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice who provide care and support for people living with terminal illnesses and neurological conditions; AWARE (Airedale and Wharfedale Autism Resource) which is a parent-run group supporting families with children and young adults on the autistic spectrum; and Friends of Airedale who are a group of volunteers dedicated to supporting Airedale General Hospital, whether that's funding the staff costs of the Voluntary Services Department, patient transport services, Clothes for Dignity and the hospital's Wifi.
Commenting Robbie said: “It is a pleasure to raise money for these three excellent charities. Manorlands is in everybody’s heart locally. Many families up and down the Keighley and Ilkley constituency have been supported by Manorlands and their excellent team led by Lizzie Proctor.
“It was great to meet Margaret Nash and the team at AWARE last year who provide invaluable support to families with autistic children. It is wonderful that a service like this is available to parents in our local area and long may it continue to provide that support.
“During volunteers week, I visited John Lofthouse, Eileen Proud and the team at Friends of Airedale Hospital to find out more about what they do and how they count on the generosity of volunteers to carry out their fundraising work and provide their vital services to the hospital, its staff and patients.”
