Local MP Robbie Moore has expressed his determination to keep the momentum going for the new Airedale hospital project following Labour's decision to pause the New Hospital Programme.
In recent discussions with the Chief Executive of Airedale Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Foluke Ajayi, and her team, Mr Moore received positive news regarding the Trust's plans for the new facility.
The MP says he is pleased to hear that the Trust is moving forward with plans for the new hospital, which is expected to be completed by 2030. He emphasised the importance of this project for the local community, which serves over 220,000 people from West Yorkshire, North Yorkshire, and East Lancashire.
Mr Moore said:
"In the time since Labour's reckless decision to put the New Hospital Programme on hold, I have met with the Chief Executive of our fantastic Airedale Hospital NHSFT, Foluke Ajayi, and her team to discuss plans going forward. It was extremely welcome to hear that the Trust is pressing ahead with plans for our new hospital and that they will continue working on a construction programme that would see our new hospital built by 2030. I have made it clear to the Health Secretary that any government delay to this project risks jeopardising not only the timely delivery of our new hospital but the future of health services for over 220,000 people from across West Yorkshire, North Yorkshire, and East Lancashire."
Mr Moore has also called for an urgent update from the Government regarding the ongoing review. Health Secretary Wes Streeting has yet to respond.
