Keighley and Ilkley MP Robbie Moore has offered his support to the local health and beauty sector during these challenging times.
The health and beauty sector (including tattoos and tattoo removal) has been hit hard by the Covid lockdown and local restriction measures which have come into effect throughout 2020, many of which have been temporarily forced to close their doors.
Robbie has met on several occasions with local health and beauty salon owners to discuss their concerns and make sure their voices are heard at the top levels of Government and the Local Authority. He has also held a number of roundtable discussions on Zoom so local salon owners can share their ideas and thoughts about the future of the industry.
Commenting Robbie said: “The health and beauty sector is a big contributor to our local and national economy. Therefore it is only right that they get the support they need to continue providing their vital services. Having visited many salons around the constituency, it is clear that they have invested heavily to ensure they can provide a Covid-secure environment for their staff and customers. This must not go unrecognised in the flight against Covid. I would urge both the Government and the Local Authority not to force salons to close should any further restrictions be implemented.”
Commenting, Sarah Wilkinson from Equilibrium Beauty Salon in Silsden said: “At times it has been soul destroying to see the industry you love be deemed unsafe by non-industry professionals.
“We are more than ‘just beauty’ often delivering a much needed break from the everyday for many. We are sometimes the only person someone sees, we offer a safe environment for people to discuss their debilitating concerns and we offer solutions to give people self-worth and the feel good factor.
“The Beauty sector must therefore be recognised within the economy as the substantial contributor that it is, instead of constantly being cast aside as irrelevant”.
Commenting Jayne Lockwood from Rethink Laser Aesthetics in Keighley said: “It has been tremendously difficult during these times understanding and adapting to the new ways of living. It’s been incredibly personal with certain restrictions given the safety of our clients is paramount. We are not in a sector that works on foot flow and people taking an item off a shelf. Our clients are the working family that we get to know personally. We are safe and we will continue to put our clients health wellbeing and safety at the forefront of everything we do.”
