Keighley and Ilkley MP Robbie Moore visited Ilkley Library’s new Memory Corner yesterday, set up to provide support for those with memory issues and dementia.
The Memory Corner was introduced into Ilkley Library by the Dementia Friendly Ilkley Action (DFIA) committee, and offers a variety of resources for carers, including informative literature, reminiscence activities, and memory games – all of which can be borrowed from the library for free.
Information will also be available showing items which can be privately purchased to support those with memory loss such as specially adapted clocks, telephones and other household aids.
Robbie Moore MP said: “It was a pleasure to visit The Memory Corner at Ilkley Library, which is a fantastic initiative to support those suffering from Dementia and memory loss. I must pay real tribute to both Dementia Friendly Ilkley Action and Ilkley Library for coming together to make this possible. There are an estimated 850,000 people with Dementia in the United Kingdom, which is expected to double by 2040. It is so important that we provide support both to those with Dementia as well as their families and carers, and initiatives such as the Memory Corner are a perfect example of work in the local community which does exactly this.”
