Keighley and Ilkley MP Robbie Moore has called on residents to make their views known about the possibility of a pedestrian crossing from Silsden to Steeton over the A629 road which would improve access and create a safe crossing to Silsden and Steeton Railway Station.
Robbie is leading the charge for a crossing at the site following on from his Conservative predecessors, Kris Hopkins, who secured £700,000 from Central Government to carry out a feasibility study into the crossing.
A consultation on the proposed options for the crossing is now underway, with residents and interested parties able to take part until midnight on 22 December 2020.
The options under consideration for the crossing include a bridge, an underpass and a toucan crossing. Robbie has already shared his view through the consultation process and is campaigning for a bridge over the A629 as he believes this is the safest and best way to link the area while improving access to the railway station.
Robbie said: “I’ve heard from residents about this since before I was elected and I will do whatever it takes to ensure a solution that has local support is implemented. Most residents I have spoken to have told me that a bridge is their preferred outcome and I agree that this is the most sustainable solution.
“I am well behind the search for a solution to the difficulties of crossing from one part of the constituency to another but I am keen to ensure we have the best, most cost-effective solution we can. We can only ensure the most practical outcome by ensuring that the survey that is now underway receives the maximum number of responses.”
Since he was elected to Parliament in December 2019, Robbie has raised the project on a number of occasions in the House of Commons with Treasury Ministers and Transport Ministers.
