Keighley MP Robbie Moore has joined in celebrations with the local Muslim community over the weekend, praising the day-long festival of Mawlid held in Keighley as a “fantastic” day for the town.
The festival, which observes the birth of the Prophet Muhammad and is celebrated by Muslims in towns and cities across the world, was organised in Keighley by Keighley Muslim Association, and featured a parade through the centre of town, which started and finished at Keighley Central Mosque, as well as public prayers to mark the occasion. The event had previously been unable to take place for two years due to Covid-19 restrictions.
Mr Moore met with Keighley’s Muslim Association, where he joined the celebrations and praised the “fabulous” food which was cooked by local families.
Speaking after the event, Robbie Moore MP said: “It was a real privilege to join the Muslim community from across Keighley and our wider area to celebrate the festival of Mawlid and mark the birthday of Prophet Muhammad. Here in Keighley, the Keighley Muslim Association hosted a fantastic, colourful and energetic parade through the centre of town, starting and finishing at the Keighley Central Mosque.
It was also brilliant to see people from right across our town come together to celebrate this special day for Muslims, including members of all faiths, backgrounds, and beliefs. This is truly what our town is about.
I would like to congratulate all involved in organising the event, including the President, Secretary and all the Committee at the Keighley Central Mosque, as well as the local families who spent time preparing some absolutely fabulous food. This was a fantastic day for Keighley”
