Local MP meets with Primary School’s Student Parliament
Keighley and Ilkley MP Robbie Moore recently visited students at Riddlesden St Mary’s Primary School, where he met with members of the Student Parliament which has been set up at the school.
During the visit, he was asked questions on a wide variety of topics, ranging from the environment, youth employment and the ongoing situation in Ukraine. Moore was also able to talk them through what his role as an MP entails, and how what happens locally shapes what he does when representing his constituents in Parliament.
Moore regularly visits schools and groups right across his constituency to talk to them about his role and how democracy works at both a local and national level. He also this year gave an open invitation to local schools to visit Parliament, with subsidised travel arrangements available for those who wish to make the trip to Westminster.
Robbie Moore MP said: “It was great to visit Riddlesden St Mary's Primary School & Nursery to meet members of their Student Parliament. Engaging with our young people is incredibly important and it was fantastic to sit down around the table for a good hour or so to talk and have a discussion with student representatives of Riddlesden St. Mary’s.
We discussed a wide range of topics, from local matters such as youth provision and improving the local environment, to wider issues such as sports and how the United Kingdom is standing by the people of Ukraine. It was amazing to see how the work done at the school, including setting up their Student Parliament, has given them such a wide grasp of these important issues.
It is so important to hear the views of and represent everyone in our community, no matter what age. As always, it was brilliant to visit the school and to engage with their members of their School Parliament, and I hope to be able to return the favour by hosting them down in Westminster.”
