Keighley & Ilkley MP Robbie Moore has kicked off the UK’s Great Big Green Week by holding a climate Q&A event with residents from across Keighley and Ilkley. Tuesday’s event, which took place at Morton Village Institute, gave residents an opportunity to put climate questions to their MP, with the discussion focusing on topics like renewable energy and home insulation.
The event, organised by Christine Bell, also included talks from Kat Armstrong from the Yorkshire and Humber Climate Commission, who talked to residents about the importance of regional climate planning, as well as a Bradford Council Policy officer, who outlined the Local Authority’s climate plans.
Speaking after the event Robbie Moore MP said: Climate change is one of the greatest challenges we face and a challenge that requires the utmost importance and urgency in public debate. It was therefore a privilege to hear from residents in East Morton about what we can do, both locally and nationally, to tackle the threat of climate change. My thanks go to local resident Christine Bell for organising this incredibly important event, as well as to everyone who attended last night.
After hosting a successful COP26, I am extremely proud of the United Kingdom’s world-leading role in combatting climate change - whether that is being the first country in the world to legislate to completely eliminate our contribution to climate change by 2050, or the UK being the fastest in the G20 to cut emissions. Of course, more can always be done to combat this issue, and I will take the insights I gathered from last night’s event with me back to Westminster to the government.
