Local farmers Rob and Helen Goulding have been nominated for a Downing Street reception as the area’s food and farming champions.
The event was an opportunity to celebrate the outstanding contributions farmers from across the UK play to rural communities, with Secretary of State for DEFRA Steve Barclay in attendance.
Rob and Helen Goulding operate a forward-thinking and efficient farm on the outskirts of Oxenhope. With a herd of 300 dairy cattle nestled in the picturesque Worth Valley, they supply milk to Arla, ensuring a steady stream of high-quality dairy products for consumers.
In addition to their farm responsibilities, Helen has also played a key role in the Worth Valley Young Farmers, an organization dedicated to empowering young people in agriculture.
Through the Young Farmers' Clubs, members aged 10 to 28 are offered a platform to hone their skills, engage with local communities, participate in diverse competitions, and foster meaningful connections.
Speaking after the event, local MP Robbie Moore said:
“It was a real privilege to nominate Rob and Helen as our local farming champions. Their commitment to quality food and farming extends well beyond their farm gates, and it is always brilliant to see local people celebrated on the national stage.
I am incredibly proud to represent farmers and growers like Rob and Helen right across Keighley, Ilkley, Silsden and the Worth Valley - they all work tirelessly, going above & beyond every day to grow & produce the very best food for us all to enjoy. Remember: No farmers, no food, no future.”
