With Keighley having the privilege of hosting this year’s Yorkshire Day celebrations, the town’s MP Robbie Moore has hosted an event in Parliament to showcase local businesses on the national stage. As part of the event, Moore welcomed seven local businesses from Keighley and the wider area; Timothy Taylor’s Brewery, Keighley and Worth Valley Railway, Grandma Wilds, The Brontë Parsonage Museum, Wydean Weaving, And Chocolate of Haworth and Byworth Boilers, who were able to showcase their products and talk to parliamentarians about their work.
The event was attended by hundreds of people, including other MPs from across Yorkshire and the wider country, Ministers and Members of the Cabinet. This included Food Minister Victoria Prentis and Work and Pensions Secretary Therese Coffey, who were able to get the chance to talk to these businesses and learn about their work.
The businesses were able to hand out samples, leaflets and much more to the visitors, who took time away from their work in Parliament to find out more about what Keighley has to offer. The event was seen as a huge success, and a real celebration of the many diverse attractions Keighley has.
Robbie Moore MP said: “With Keighley having the proud privilege of hosting this year’s Yorkshire Day celebrations, I was delighted to take the opportunity to welcome some of our fantastic businesses, organisations and attractions to Westminster so they could showcase their wonderful offerings on the national stage.
From breweries to food shops and museums to manufacturers, we had a fantastic offering on show, and I was so proud to showcase all that our town has to offer to Parliament. We were joined by MPs from right across Yorkshire and the wider country, as well as Ministers and Members of the Cabinet, and it was great to introduce them to local businesses so they could tell them all about our town’s great businesses.
I am determined to get Keighley on the map, for our town has such a great offering and this is something we must all sing from the rooftops about. Whilst I could only facilitate seven businesses on the day, this represents just a small part about what is great about Keighley. Hosting Yorkshire Day this year is just the start of something special for Keighley, and we can use this as a huge boost to put Keighley right back on the map.”
