A local Karate & Kickboxing Academy has received high praise from the town’s MP after students displayed their talents at a recent Grading and Certificate Ceremony.
Sensei Sheikh Shito ryu Karate & Kickboxing Academy held its 6th Dan/Kyu Grading grading ceremony for students this weekend at the Sangat Centre on Marlborough Street.
It was a chance for the young students to pass through the ranks of the club and earn a new belt, with grading ceremonies taking place just 4 times per year.
Town Mayor Cllr John Kirby and Town MP Robbie Moore invited to watch the ceremony.
Students were tested on basic movements (Kihon), pre-arranged combinations of movements (Kata) and sparring (Kumite), led by Chief Instructor Jaz Bhatt and Sensei Sheikh Muhammad Layek Miah, who first began his study of Karate aged just 10 yrs old.
The club welcomes participants all ages, backgrounds and physical abilities, from total beginners to any previous grade, with more information available at https://senseisheikh.co.uk
Commenting on his visit to the club, Robbie Moore MP said:
“It was absolutely brilliant to be invited along by Sheikh Muhammad Layek Miah to watch the club’s latest grading ceremony. Watching their young and talented students perform some incredibly graceful katas and powerful moves on the mats was a real pleasure, and I know just how hard all the students have worked for their new belts. A huge well done to all at Sensei Sheikh Shito ryu Karate & Kickboxing Academy on their success.”
