Andrew Dobson from Ilkley, who is widely known around the town for his regular community-focused social media posts, has been award the Keighley and Ilkley Unsung Hero Award by local MP Robbie Moore.
Throughout the Coronavirus outbreak, Andrew has been lifting the spirits of people from Ilkley by posting regular community videos and activities on his social media accounts which often leave residents in fits of giggles and lighted up their day. Andrew is also known locally for raising money for charity.
Mr Moore said: “I was taken aback by the number of nominations which Andrew received. He is certainly a very popular character in Ilkley. I have seen many of this social media videos which I find very amusing and uplifting. Many people have been left feeling lonely during lockdown, with many not speaking to another person in weeks. The videos have kept people going through this tough period and that should not go unrecognised.
“I also want to thank Andrew for the recent work that he has done with cleaning up rubbish left on Ilkley Moor at the end of May which saw hundreds of people flock to Ilkley to enjoy the warm weather. It is disappointing that Andrew had to do this, however the fact he did this just shows what a hard working and decent man Andrew is – a worthy winner of this week’s Unsung Hero Award.”
