Haworth and Worth Valley Rotary Club have welcomed local Robbie Moore MP as their guest speaker this week.
The event took place at the Rotarians’ weekly meeting, which takes place at Newsholme Manor on Tuesday evenings.
Mr. Moore met with Haworth & Worth Valley Rotary Club President Gary Gardner before speaking to members of the club. On the agenda were life as a Member of Parliament, progress on the new Airedale hospital confirmed for the constituency, delivering on government investment for the area and enhancing vocational skills and apprenticeship opportunities for young people in the community.
Established in 1999, Haworth and Worth Valley Rotary Club has played a significant role in contributing to the local area. Their members, hailing from various backgrounds, have been actively involved in numerous community initiatives and projects, including the Club’s Community Grant Scheme, which was initiated in response to the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
For the 2023 round of grants, the Rotary Club awarded £2,550 to community groups across the area, including:
* Haworth and Worth Valley District Talking Newspaper: £500
* Haworth Central Park Bowling Club: £300
* Stitch4CharityWY: £500
* Lees cum Cross Roads Village Association: £250
* Haworth Riding for the Disabled: £500
* Oxenhope CofE Primary School: £500
The 2023 scheme was funded in part by the Rotarians’ successful Santa Fun Run, held for the first time in 2022.
The local MP will take part second Santa Fun Run scheduled for Sunday, December 3rd, saying it promises to be “bigger and better than ever”.
Robbie Moore MP said:
“It was a real privilege to be invited to address the Haworth and Worth Valley Rotary Club and meet with their fantastic membership, where I spoke about life as an MP and some of key my priorities for Haworth and the wider area, including progress on our new Airedale Hospital, delivering on recent investment from the government and making sure that our young people have access to high quality apprenticeships and vocational training.
Whether its fundraising for local causes, organising brilliant local events like the Santa Fun Run or supporting our local organisations, Haworth and Worth Valley Rotary Club really are committed to ensuring that our town is a fantastic place to live.
Last year’s Santa Fun Run was a huge success and helped raise money for community projects across our area - and this year’s event promises to be even bigger and better than before, so I’d encourage everyone to get involved and join in the fun for a good cause.”
