"Despite Ilkley Town Council finally seeing sense and formally asking Bradford Council to immediately pause their blanket, town-wide 20mph zone & speed hump scheme…..
…. Labour’s District Councillor responsible for the scheme, Cllr Alex Ross-Shaw who sits on Bradford Council has said they carry on regardless - with work due to start in weeks.
It must be noted that the only reason Ilkley Town Council formally asked Bradford Council to pause the scheme with immediate effect was because the Labour & Green Town Councillors - which includes Ilkley’s Labour Mayor - abstained on such a motion when put to a vote.
They did not have the backbone to change their minds and vote in accordance with the strong instruction which was given to them via the public vote, which strongly objected to the town-wide scheme.
It was only the Conservative Town Councillors which passed the motion so that Ilkley Town Council could write to Bradford Council requesting them to pause the scheme with immediate effect.
This whole charade is absolutely infuriating. It is outrageous that Labour-run Bradford Council will not change their plans.
This is your taxpayers money they are spending on a scheme which the vast majority of people in Ilkley do not want.
The Labour Party are an absolute disgrace.
They literally do not listen to local opinion.
And all this is happening when just a couple of weeks ago, Bradford Council announced they are facing a £68 million gap in its budget for this year.
Their mismanagement of taxpayers money and mismanagement of priority spending is ridiculous.
Labour-run Bradford Council should listen to you - stop this scheme with immediate effect - and look to implement a targeted scheme reduction scheme instead."
